The Douglas family's farming roots date back to the 1890's, when a close relative planted apple orchards in Washington's Yakima Valley. The region's arid climate, plentiful water supply, and fertile soil made it an ideal place to grow fruit. Today, the fourth generation leads the family farming business, working closely with Stemilt to ensure quality comes first in all that they do.
In 2007, the Douglas family transitioned its entire crop of peaches and nectarines to organic production in order to provide consumers with a better eating experience. They believed that the natural farming practices used in organic production would produce fruits with more complex flavors and textures. Their gamble paid off and three years later the orchards were producing high-quality organic fruits.
Look for their Artisan Organics peaches and nectarines during the summer and early fall months!
