Starkrimson pears were discovered in the early 1950’s in Missouri as a branch of red pears on a tree that typically produced green pears. In 1956, Starks Brothers Nursery patented this variety and began selling trees for commercial production.

Just like their name implies, Starkrimson pears have a crimson red color that brightens as its ripens. They have a juicy texture and sweet flavor with a floral essence. Starkrimson pears are recognizable by their unique color and thick, stocky stem with a neck that appears to be growing up and around it.

Starkrimson pears are one of the first varieties off the tree in August. The fruit’s striking red color makes it a perfect selection for salads and fresh eating. Starkrimson also pairs well with strong cheeses, such as blue or goat cheese.
