Starkrimson pears were discovered in the early 1950’s in Missouri as a branch of red pears on a tree that typically produced green pears. In 1956, Starks Brothers Nursery patented this variety and began selling trees for commercial production. Just like their name implies, Starkrimson pears have a crimson red color that brightens as its ripens. They have a juicy texture and sweet flavor with a floral essence. Starkrimson pears are recognizable by their unique color and thick, stocky stem with a neck that appears to be growing up and around it.
