Gala apples are excellent for fresh eating, salads and sauce; very good for pies, baking & freezing

Gala apples were discovered in the 1920's by New Zealand orchardist J.H. Kidd. Gala apples are a cross between Golden Delicious and Cox's Orange Pippin, an old English favorite. They were introduced for commercial production in 1965, but didn't make their way into the U.S. market until the 1980's.

 

Washington Gala ripens in August

Gala apples ripen in August. They are the first variety harvested by Stemilt in the fall. Gala apples are sweet, snappy and aromatic with red stripes over a pale yellow background.
