Some claim the Bosc came from France, while others say the pear originated in Belgium. What is known about Bosc pears is that they were discovered in Europe in the early 1800's.

In the U.S., the history of the Bosc pear is more certain. The variety was introduced in 1833 and first harvested in 1836. Today, Bosc pears are grown primarily in Washington and Oregon where the soil and climate enhance the unique characteristics of this variety.

Bosc pears are harvested by Stemilt in September. They do not change color as they ripen and are known for having a rich, sweet and spicy flavor. Bosc pears are great for pies, baking, and poaching.
