PlumcotsThe plumcot is a natural hybrid of the plum and apricot developed in the late 20th century by U.S. biologist Floyd Zaiger. It is about 3/4 plum and 1/4 apricot. Plumcots are also known by their tradename, Pluot.

The fruit’s exterior closely resembles that of a plum, although it can have the mottled appearance common in apricots. Plumcots are noted for their sweetness (due to high Brix levels) and for their intense flavor. Nutritionally, plumcots are rich in vitamin A.

Plumcots are harvested by Stemilt in Washington state in late August. They have a very short availability period (late August to late September) and are best for fresh eating.
