The history of the nectarine is unclear. The first recorded mention is from 1616 in England, but they were probably farmed in central Asia much earlier than that. In 1720, nectarines were found growing between peach trees in Virginia.

Yellow NectarinesThe nectarine is a cultivar group of peach that has a smooth, fuzz-less skin and dense flesh. Nectarines have arisen many times from fuzzy peaches, often as bud sports. Genetic studies have shown that nectarines share all of the same genes as peaches, except for the one that causes fuzz. In general, nectarines are slightly smaller and sweeter than peaches.

Yellow nectarines have a red blush to full red color over a yellow background with a bright yellow interior flesh. It is excellent for fresh eating, canning, freezing and all types of baking.
