Easy Homemade Peach Sorbet

|

It’s been HOT here in Washington State. In fact, July was the hottest month since weather record keeping started. Since it’s been too hot to venture outside in the afternoon, I decided to keep my son busy by enlisting his help to make a treat that would help us all cool off. Enter the easiest homemade peach sorbet recipe ever!

Peaches are my favorite fruit, and Stemilt’s Artisan Organics peaches are something I look forward to all year long. Our entire crop of peaches and nectarines has been grown and certified organic for six seasons now, and the flavor that natural farming methods deliver is truly out of this world. They are juicy, sweet, a little tart, and SO good! A perfect summer treat that my family enjoys often while they are in season in August and September (and you should too!).

I prefer to eat peaches that are on the soft side, so I left the fruit on the counter for a day or so until they were ready. The Douglas family, who grows the majority of Stemilt’s Artisan Organics peaches, is really committed to tree-ripening the fruit, and picking it at optimum ripeness where it can make the journey to grocery stores, but also deliver a dessert eating experience. These peaches did not disappoint, and if I wasn’t set on a frozen treat, I would’ve just enjoyed them on their own as a juice-dripping snack!

Never one to reinvent the wheel, I did a little research on Pinterest to compare ingredients and instructions in other homemade peach sorbet recipes. Yet, I wanted to make it a little different so I decided to add lemon zest and juice, and also keep a few of the peach skins on (since the skin is where most of the peach nutrition is). Whenever I enlist the help of my son to bake or cook, I find that it’s easiest to set out all the ingredients ahead of time and give him clear instructions of what my job is compared to what he should be doing. I should’ve guessed that his involvement would be limited to stealing the peaches I was slicing up and eating them, and pressing the number 3 button on the blender to make it GO!

This peach sorbet recipe was incredibly easy to put together and very peachy tasting. It was the perfect summer treat to cool off with! If sorbet is not your thing, you could also pour the peach-simple syrup mixture in popsicle molds for your little ones, or make yourself a delicious peach cocktail.

This peach sorbet is the perfect summer treat to cool off with.

Instructions

  1. First, wash the peaches.
  2. Start your simple syrup on the stove by bringing the sugar and water to a boil. Stir often. Once the sugar dissolves completely, remove from the heat.
  3. Then, peel the skin off of 3 of the peaches. Slice the peach into even slices around the pit, and place the slices into your blender. Leave the skin on the remaining 2 peaches. Slice the peach into even slices around the pit and place into your blender.
  4. Add lemon zest and juice (as much or as little as you’d like) to the blender.
  5. Then, pour the simple syrup into the blender pitcher. You may want to wait until it has cooled off. Blend on high speed until the fruit and skin are broken up and you have a juice-like mixture.
  6. Pour the juice mixture into freezer-safe containers. Freeze for 3 plus hours or until solid. Scoop and serve in a bowl. Enjoy!
