Facts of Interest:
The word "cherry" comes from the French word "cerise," which comes in turn from the Latin words cerasum and Cerasus.  Dating back to 300B.C., cherries were named after the Turkish town of Cerasus. Through the centuries, cherry trees have been lauded for their delicious, succulent fruit as well as for their beauty.

Varieties such as Bing, Sweetheart, Skeena, Staccato are all dark-sweet cherries.  We grow numerous dark-sweet cherry varieties, each variety grown in locations it is suited for.

Artisan Organics is Stemilt Growers’ banner for organic tree fruits. This label adorns all packaging and price look-up stickers on Stemilt’s organic apples, pears, cherries, and stone fruits.

We began major investments in organic tree fruit production back in 1989. That’s when Stemilt founder Tom Mathison launched his Responsible Choice program, urging growers and company managers to look for ways to conserve natural resources and reduce synthetic materials in all our growing and packing operations.

Since that year, Stemilt has become a national leader in organic tree fruit production and packing:

• Artisan Organics are grown with tree and soil balance in mind.
• Natural tree and soil balance encourages the orchards’ innate defenses, creating tastier fruit that needs no synthetic fertilizers.
• Artisan Organics are farmed 100% organically so there is no residue on the fruit.
• Artisan Organics come from modern orchards that use the latest growing and harvesting techniques.

Stemilt’s Artisan Organics and Artisan Naturals are grown with extreme care. See and taste the difference that our natural farming methods produce.

Being the U.S. leader in cherries is tough work, but we've proven we have what it takes to stay at the top of our game.  We continue to lead the industry in quality, supply and length of availability.

What really separates us from the pack? Our passion for perfection.  We love everything there is about growing and shipping cherries.  from our growers to our packers to our sales reps, each individual at Stemilt is passionate about delivering the best to the marketplace.

We grow the best varieties in all the best locations. Cherry harvest starts earlier and ends later in the season in Stemilt’s orchards than in any other cherry-growing region in the country.

Stemilt’s harvesting kicks off in California where cherries are picked in May. Stemilt cherries flow from the sunshine state until mid-June. That’s about the time Stemilt starts harvest in Washington.

Stemilt Hill is the essence of Stemilt's late cherry program - and is the reason for why our late cherries stand abovet the rest.  This is the most premium late cherry ground in the United States for several reasons:

  • Elevations that start at 700ft and go up to 3,200 ft.
  • Ideal site that remains cool in the hot summer
  • Nutrient rich volcanic soils
  • Great water / irrigation
  • Numerous acres of natural farming
  • Great varieties
  • On-site packing facility

Our super-late varieties like Skeena and Staccato, grown at 3,000 feet elevation, arrive in stores last, giving you plump, ripe, delicious cherries into mid-August. Try Stemilt Artisan Naturals and Artisan Organics cherries, naturally-farmed to bring out ideal cherry flavors.
