Pear Nutrition Facts

Stemilt pears give you a bounty of goodness! Not only are they beautiful, but they’re also nutritious. A good source of potassium and vitamin C, pears are loaded with flavor. And best of all, they come in their own nutritious, edible packaging, which makes them a great snack when you’re on the go.

If that isn’t enough reason to eat more pears, take a look at this! One medium-size fresh pear has 5 grams of fiber, or 20 percent of the recommended daily amount. Studies show that people who eat high-fiber diets tend to have a lower body weight. Recent studies from Penn State University and Tufts University support this theory.

Dietary fiber could reduce inflammation
People who eat a diet high in fiber also have significantly lower levels of a protein that is associated with inflammation, diabetes and heart disease. The current dietary guidelines recommend 20-35 grams of fiber per day, including soluble fiber (the kind found in pears)!

Americans need more critical nutrients in their diets
According to a U.S. Department of Agriculture study, "What We Eat in America," Americans typically lack calcium, magnesium, potassium and vitamins A, C and E in their diets. In addition, certain populations have low intakes of other critical nutrients, such as iron and vitamins B12 and D. Pears are a healthy source of many of these missing nutrients!

So here’s to eating lots of pears and here’s to your good health!
