What should I look for when selecting cherries?
Cherries with attached green stems, color of the fruit and firmness are all things you should look for when selecting cherries. Dark-sweet cherries should range from dark red to mahogany while Rainier and Skylar Rae® brand Tip Top cultivar cherries should have a yellow background with a slight to full pink-red blush. The fruit should be firm to the touch. Finally, check the overall appearance of the cherry. Great-tasting cherries are plump, smooth, shiny and have unblemished skin.
How do I store my Stemilt cherries at home?
Store those sweet gems in the refrigerator unwashed and uncovered or in their original packaging. When kept refrigerated, fresh cherries will keep for up to 7 days. But make sure to keep away from strong-smelling foods! The smell can alter the taste – weird, we know. Also, be sure to rinse cherries under cold water before eating.
I noticed light brown spots on my Rainier or Skylar Rae® brand cherries. What are they?
Although it looks like a flaw, the light brown spots on these delicate, light-skinned cherries are an extra-sweet sugar spot! Enjoy!
If I plant the pits from your cherries, will it result in a tree with edible fruit?
It’s not likely. It may produce a tree, but it probably won’t produce edible fruit. Fruit trees are grown by grafting a specific variety onto an established rootstock, so planting from a seed won’t get you the high-quality fruits you are after. The best way to grow your own cherries would be to purchase a tree from a local nursery.
