Savory and Sweet

Emily from Zen & Spice is back again with this awesome Apple Butter Hummus recipe that I personally have not been able to get enough of. I’m a sweet girl. Really. Some may disagree that my redheaded self tends to be on the sassier side, but really – underneath my fiery flare is a girl who enjoys the sweeter, nicer things in life: easygoing vacations, dogs that can’t stop smiling and this Apple Butter Hummus.

I know what you’re thinking: Apple and Hummus?? But, trust me- apple butter hummus is a perfect snack. You can use it to dip apples slices, spread it on crackers, and even top with some shredded coconut. The savory-sweet flavor combination will thrill any crowd.

Choose Your Favorite

The best apples for this apple butter hummus are Fuji or Pink Lady®, but any baking apple will do. Once you have your main ingredient picked out, you’ll start this recipe by making the apple butter. All you need to do is mix your apples with a little cinnamon and brown sugar and stick it in one of my favorite kitchen tools: the slow cooker.

Once the apple butter process is complete, you can move into making the hummus, which requires my other favorite kitchen tool: a blender/food processor (whatever you have will work great). Mix the apple butter with the chickpea, lemon juice, a smidge of olive oil, brown sugar and cinnamon. Blend until smooth and voila!
