Every year I am always on a mission to find a fun DIY gift to give out during the holidays. Do I succeed every year? Not always, but who does? However, this year I am feeling extra prepared because I now know what I am going to gift as my DIY gift – this Homemade Cookie Butter (sorry friends/coworkers – the secret is out).

Our friend Chelsea from A Duck’s Oven whipped up this delish Cookie Butter recipe, which is all the rage on the internet right now. Cookie Butter is made up of cookies (obviously), some sort of fat, like a type of oil or butter (in this case, coconut oil), some water, powdered sugar, and salt. Pretty easy right? All you need in a food processor or blender to blend all the ingredients together.

So can this recipe get any better? Yes, it absolutely can. Cookie Butter can be dipped, spread or dunked with a various amount of different things. You can put it on bread (like an English Muffin), place it between cake layers, add it onto your ice cream or even dunk it with some delicious Piñata® apples!

Piñata® apples are such a great apple to keep in your apple arsenal. They can literally do just about anything you need an apple to do. It is a great snacking apple (so perfect for dunking in a jar of Cookie Butter), but it is also does well when heated up. Plus, it has the perfect balance of acidity and sugars, so chefs and bakers alike use this apple in a number of different dishes – both savory and sweet.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz coffee cookies
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Stemilt Piñata® apples for serving

Instructions

  1. Add the cookies to a zipper-top bag and crush until broken into small pieces.
  2. Add the broken cookies to a food processor and process until the cookies are broken into small crumbs.
  3. Add the coconut oil and process to combine. Add the water and repeat.
  4. Add the powdered sugar a bit at a time, pulsing in between additions. Add the salt, and process until completely combined and smooth.
  5. Cut the apples into slices and dip into the cookie butter.
