Pear, Citrus and Ginger Green Juice

|

D’Anjou is the most popular winter pear variety and famous for its sweet flavor with subtle citrus notes. In this post, Coryanne from our Kitchen Council blends the sweet-citrus flavor of d’Anjou pears with a burst of lemon and lime juice, spinach, and fresh ginger into a juice that is equally tasty as it is refreshing and healthy.

If I am honest, I love my fruits and vegetables, and have a fridge that looks like a rainbow when you open it; but on those busy winter days when the slow cooker is doing all the meal prep, my diet is seriously lacking those green vegetables that keep my diet balanced. And this time of year, the one thing that seems to be on my mind more than anything else, is trying to find the perfect green juice recipe because the first green juice I tried was so horrible that it took me a year to muster the courage to try another, and still that one was only just passable.

So I started 2016 off on a mission to create a green juice so delicious, so easy and so inexpensive, that I would make it part of my daily routine. It only took me a few tries before I quickly learned that my favorite combination is ginger and spinach because somehow the tang of the ginger cuts through the green of the spinach, and leaves it tasting clean rather than ‘green’. Adding in d’Anjou pears and a splash of citrus juice is what ties it all together to make it a smooth, clean and crisp juice with no traces of pulp, or pith, and certainly no distinctive green taste that makes you wish you were eating a salad instead.

Making this in my regular blender, I had to skin the pears, and even then was left with something closer to a smoothie than a juice. The flavor is still great, but the consistency is thick, and goes down better if you add ice to the mix. But for the perfect light juice, I used my Nutri Ninja® | Ninja® Blender Duo with Auto-iQTM.  There was no need to skin the pear, all I had to do was wash, chop, grate, zest, squeeze and pour all the ingredients together, pop on the lid and hit the puree button. One minute later I had a juice better than anything I had ever bought in a store, and it only took me 2 minutes to make – 1 minute for prep, and 1 minute in the Nutri Ninja®.
