All About Pear Antioxidants and Vitamins

|

Each bite of a pear contributes to good health. Pears are a good source of vitamin C, with approximately 10% of your daily recommended dose in one medium-sized pear.

Among the antioxidants that we know are in pears (there are more to be discovered!), vitamin C is a big one. Vitamin C helps maintain a healthy immune system and helps fight free radicals from damaging the body’s cells during oxidation. Oxidative stress is believed to be a contributor to many chronic diseases, including cancer. Other benefits of vitamin C include: protecting against infectious diseases, healing properties and it’s vital for bone and tissue health.

Pears are rich in other antioxidants as well, and should be included as part of a fruit- and vegetable-rich diet in order to prevent heart disease, cancer, diabetes and more. Need more on pear nutrition? Check out our section on pears and lung health.
