Ingredients
- 6 cups cherries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1 1/2 cups quick oats
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cardamom
- 1/2 cup butter
This cherry crisp is a low-sugar spin on the American classic.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
For the filling:
- Pit six cups of cherries and place into mixing bowl. Add sugar, flour, and almond extract.
- Mix thoroughly and smash cherries with spoon to help them cook faster. Split cherry filling amongst three buttered 4in. ramekins.
- Bake for 25 minutes at 375°F.
For the topping:
- While the cherry filling is cooking, make the topping.
- Add oats, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, cardamom to a mixing bowl. Mix with spoon.
- Pour melted butter over oat mixture. Mix until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Top the half-done cherry mixture with oat topping and bake for another 25 minutes at 375°F.
- The crisp is done when fruit is bubbling and oat topping is light brown.
