At Stemit, our entire crop of peaches and nectarines – and the majority of our apricots – are grown and certified as organic. The transition to organic started back in 2007 when the Douglas family, a fourth generation farming family who own and operate Douglas Fruit in Pasco, WA, joined Stemilt in converting all of their peach and nectarine orchards.
Organic farming is not easy, and it was a big gamble to be all-organic. Yet, the Douglas family believed that organic farming practices – when combined with the ideal arid climate of their Central Washington farming locales – would bring orchards into balance in order to produce peaches and nectarines with more complex flavors and textures, and one incredible dessert eating experience.
You’ll find our peaches, nectarines and apricots under Stemilt’s long-time organic label, Artisan Organics™, during the summer and early fall.
