Prefer to keep things simple? Just slice up some Cosmic Crisp® or Granny Smith apples for a well rounded plate – an especially great option for kiddos. Not only will they provide a refreshing bite after the burger, but they are easy to prepare. If you’re feeling inspired, you might even try a couple slices on a burger for some extra crunch and zest!

Too Much Prep?

Although it may seem like unnecessary work to prepare your own plant-based patties, when they’re easily found at the grocery store, you won’t go back once you’ve tried these burgers. Skip the mystery ingredients and opt for these instead.

They truly take no time to mix together and use items you likely already have in your pantry, like black beans, brown rice or quinoa, barbecue sauce, and basic spices. You’ll probably find this ingredient list to be much shorter than other plant-based burger recipes. It also allows for some improvisation if you are looking for some extra flavors as you can add it in as you blend all the ingredients together!

Building a Plant-Based Burger:

We recommend lightly mashing the black beans to make them creamy and help hold the patty mixture together. Another Hot tip: when you have just a little rice or quinoa leftover at the end of a meal, you can freeze it until you have enough to use in a recipe like this one. In fact, you can easily use a mixture of rice or quinoa, making it perfect for odds and ends!

Like any burger, we firmly believe a toasted bun is key. Simply top with your favorite condiments like pickles, sliced onions, crisp lettuce, and mustard and you’ve got yourself a delicious, plant-based meal that will keep you full all day long. Once you’ve formed the patties, they only need a few minutes on the grill or on a hot skillet and they’re ready to go. They hold their shape so well and have great flavor thanks to simple spices and barbecue sauce.
